Two Former Miss Worlds Enjoy the Beauty of Thanda
Thanda has just played host to two fabulous ladies who were both previous Miss World title holders of commendable significance.
At the time living in Durban, Penelope Anne Ray (née Coelen) was crowned Miss World at the contest’s 8th pageant in 1958 gaining widespread international attention for being the only non-European to have made it into the finals. Reita Faria Powell was the first Indian and Asian to win the Miss World title in 1966 and went on to become the first Miss World to also qualify as a doctor.
Travelling with their husbands they enjoyed exciting game drives along with a magical bush dinner around an open fire with local Zulu dancers and naturally, the sumptuous accommodation at Thanda Safari Lodge. Their time in fact was so enjoyed that they vowed to return to see the Big Five, with their little five – their grandchildren!

Oh how wonderful Penny is looking after all these years. I was a kid when she won the well deserved title of Miss SA & Miss World. Looks young enough to enter all over again. God Bless her & her husband for a long life together ❤
