Show and Tell – Educational Game Drives for Local Kids
We recently invited 114 children from the three local communities that we support and work with to Thanda. Most of them had never seen wild animals up close and in their natural habitat before, and we wanted to offer this opportunity as part of a wider educational programme. They were accompanied on a series of game drives where they encountered lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and various plains game such as giraffe, zebra and impala.
We collected the children from their villages and gave them each a snack packet before heading out on the 2.5-hour game drive. They later enjoyed a picnic under the trees at Thanda’s offices. Hector, our Local Community Liaison Officer, said afterwards that the children had greatly enjoyed their time and could not stop talking about how wonderful it was. Happy guests – we are thrilled!
This initiative forms part of an educational programme we have initiated to teach local children about conservation and environmental issues. This was our inaugural session, with this style of game drive scheduled to run throughout the course of next year.
