A Drink at the Lodge!

At this time of the year Thanda’s breeding herd of Elephants is often seen at the small waterhole in front of the Lodge. It is a very exciting moment for the Thanda guests when these gentle giants arrive for their afternoon drinks!

This picture shows one of the two largest Elephant bulls on Thanda drinking right next to the Lodge reception area.

It is quite amazing to see how Elephants tolerate the close presence of humans when they are around a man-made structure, like the Lodge. This is very different from their reaction to humans when they encounter them on foot, which can be a very uncomfortable experience for both parties.
